Solano Community Foundation to Lead Major Fundraising Campaign Give Local Solano Emphasizes Local Nonprofit Organizations

FAIRFIELD: Solano Community Foundation will lead a group of nearly 30 Solano County nonprofit organizations in a major fundraising activity on May 3, 2016. Called Give Local Solano, the campaign is a one-day, 24-hour crowdfunding event for Solano County nonprofit organizations. SCF will be joining community foundations and their associated nonprofit organizations in all 50 states on this national giving day. This Give Local America event provides individuals a platform to invest in and celebrate the work of local nonprofit organizations across the country. This is the first year that an endeavor of this type has been held in and for Solano County. It is planned in conjunction with our 20th Anniversary. The goal is to make it an annual event to build momentum in coming years, and reach more nonprofit organizations and more donors each time, for the benefit of the communities we serve.

Give Local America is a collective effort of community partners, nonprofits, local media, local businesses, and donors – each of which plays a critical role in the success of the day. On Give Local America day in 2015, more than 9,000 nonprofit organizations in all 50 states raised a cumulative $68,500,000 for their charitable causes.

For Give Local Solano, participating nonprofits with headquarters in, or those providing goods or services to residents of Solano County will pool their publicity and advertising resources to make sure news of the campaign reaches the largest possible audience. As local partners register for the event, they are listed on the website, Readers should check every few days, as new partners may join the campaign until the end of February.

The campaign also plans to seek the support of major local city and county governments as well as businesses serving Solano County. Any business or individual who wishes to participate as a sponsor may get further information by sending an e-mail to:

Connie Harris, CEO of Solano Community Foundation had this to say, “We are excited and honored to help build a culture of philanthropy in Solano County, in a collective partnership with the individuals and organizations we serve.”

Similar campaigns have raised millions of dollars for nonprofits elsewhere in the state. Donors will be able to go to the special campaign website:, beginning February 16, to see those local nonprofits registered to participate in the event. Organizations may continue to join the campaign website until February 29th, so prospective donors should check back frequently. Online donations to participating organizations will only be accepted through the campaign website during the 24-hour period of midnight on May second to midnight on May third. During that day, anyone who wishes may view the leaderboards, follow the progress of the campaign, and see how their favorite nonprofits are doing. Donations cease at midnight on May third, but results will be viewable until June 30th.

Donors may contribute to one or all of the participating nonprofits on the day of the event via the campaign’s website. Sponsors (any business or individual other than the participating organizations) may donate to the GLS Incentive Fund on the SCF website ( now, and continue to do so either online or via check until May third. Monies from this fund will be distributed to the participating nonprofits in proportion to the amount of the overall funds they raise. If Organization X raises 7% of the overall funds raised on the third of May, Organization X will get 7% of the Incentive Fund as well.

Solano Community Foundation will be holding training webinars and meetings with the participants over the next few months until the day of the event itself. In the lead-up to the day, SCF will provide periodic news updates related to the campaign. SCF’s Facebook page will also have the latest news of the plans and activities. The goal and purpose of this campaign is to build excitement for the event by spreading the word as widely as possible and encouraging participation by all Solano County residents.
